ROBBIE'S FISHING REPORT |
|
Mid-December, 2011 |
|
|
Well here we are again - come on, people, it's only been
two months!! |
|
It's been a strange couple of months, with occupancy in the park going
from dead empty to full overnight and back again, and we've also had a
really peculiar lot of weather. As I write I am sitting in a jumper and
still damned cold. (Why did I take my electric blanket off?) Over the
past fortnight we've had more wind than you want to see in a year, but
the fishing has been strangely excellent. All the regular more
experienced Wonboyn fishos - James King, Paul Pease, Angus Hartshorn,
Don and Wilma Hayne etc - more than bagged out on flathead and/or bream
on an almost daily basis during their stays. (Most of these people
return the majority of their fish to the water.) |
|
To summarize: whiting and luderick have also been caught in steady numbers
and good sizes, and even the occasional estuary perch. One or two people
have tried unsuccessfully for jewies. Although the entrance is flowing
strongly, it's very shallow at the moment so that's not too surprising.
Tailor and salmon are still about in the lake, but I have no idea what
they've been up to on the beaches - everyone's been fishing the lake,
possibly because trying to cast against a gale on the beach is a bit
pointless! |
|
Of interest to the unconverted - you all know that Bucky is a
dyed-in-the-wool mullet nut who likes nothing more than a good session
out on the water with a loaf of bread. Paul Pease, originally somewhat
sceptical about the joys of catching and eating mullet, became one of a
growing band of converts after going out with Bucky towards the end of
his two week stay. Quote: "That's about the most fun you can have with
your pants on!" His conversion was complete when he cooked and tried his
first sand mullet. (Being a Queenslander, his previous experiences of
eating "weedy" mullet had not been positive ones!) Paul's last day or
two here were spent gleefully arguing with big mullet - seriously, they
ARE the best fun ever on light tackle. |
|
So that's pretty much IT for 2011. It remains only for me
to wish our mob of loyal and wonderful guests a memorable and joyful
festive season, and all the very best for 2012. Thanks to all of you for
your patronage, and here's hoping for tight lines and good times at
Wonboyn next year! |
